A public records lawsuit filed by the mother of a slain Albuquerque teen will head to trial later this month.

Albuquerque city attorneys were a no-show today for a court meeting to determine the scheduling of a trial relating a March 22 shooting that left 17-year-old Jaquise Lewis dead. Munah Green, Lewis’s mother, is suing the city for allegedly withholding public records related to the shooting.

Albuquerque District Judge Victor Lopez scheduled a hearing for the lawsuit on Nov. 20 at 10:30 am. A city attorney showed up after the hearing and spoke to Lopez’s staff.

Green wants Albuquerque police to release a cell phone video of the incident. Police showed Green and her legal representation the video this summer.

Lewis died from gunshots that also wounded six others at Los Altos Skate Park. Two months later, Albuquerque police held a press conference where they stated that Lewis fired gunshots that night and died in self-defense.

But at least five eyewitnesses who were with Lewis’s group during the night of the shooting have publicly disputed the police department’s narrative, maintaining that Lewis never had a gun. Green has also said the cell phone video shows her son being pursued and shot.

To date, police have not filed charges against or publicly released the name of the person who shot and killed Lewis.
