El Auditor Estatal investigará el acuerdo de agua de Jal

La oficina del Auditor del Estado está examinando un acuerdo en donde la cuidad de Jal brindó un rancho local con un gran descuento en agua, después de un informe a principios de esta semana.

Las noticias llegan después que New Mexico Political Report y The Jal Record informaron sobre los créditos que Beckham Ranch, Inc. recibió de la cuidad de Jal

“La Oficina del Auditor del Estado abrió un caso para llevar a cabo una investigación de los hechos sobre las preocupaciones que se han planteado.” La Deputy Chief of Staff Subdirector de personal Justine Freeman dijo en una declaración.

La cuidad no ha podido producir un registro escrito del acuerdo y los consejeros municipales no se acuerdan si votaron para el acuerdo. Algunos ni se acuerdan si discutieron el acuerdo, mientras que otros, incluyendo el alcalde, dice que sí discutieron el acuerdo, pero no llegaron a una decisión oficial.

Brad Beckham, quien aparece en los registros comerciales estatales como presidente, agente y uno de los directores de Beckham Ranch, negó que recibió créditos de la cuidad para el uso de agua para su rancho. En cambio, declaró que él simplemente pagó lo que el administrador municipal y el alcalde se le cobró para su uso de agua.

Los créditos vinieron conforme la cuidad elevaba la tarifa de agua para la industria de $8 dólares por 1.000 galones a $18 por 1.000 galones y luego $24 por 1.000 galones. Los créditos, según los documentos de la cuidad, significa que Beckham Ranch pagaba la tarifa d $8 dólares por 1.000.

El Auditor del Estado Tim Keller afirmó que antes de la publicación de esta historia, que podría ser ilegal.

“Si algún gobierno local de Nuevo México regaló los recursos naturales, generaría profundas preocupaciones para los contribuyentes y posiblemente, se estaría violando nuestra constitución del estado,” el Auditor del Estado De New Mexico dijo en una declaración.
