More than 25,000 New Mexicans either registered to vote or updated their voter registration online this Monday and Tuesday, the final two days for New Mexicans to register to vote for this November’s elections.
On Oct. 10, 14,237 New Mexicans registered or updated their voter registrations online. On Oct. 11, the final day of registration, 11,552 New Mexicans registered or updated their voter registrations online, according to the Secretary of State’s office.
This number only counts changes done online, not those done in person or through the mail.
The final number of registered voters eligible to vote in the elections likely won’t be known until the middle of next week, according to the Secretary of State’s office. County clerks around the state and those in the Secretary of State’s office are working to process voter registrations and compile the final numbers.
These were by far the two largest days of online voter registration activity since Jan. 1, when online voter registration began in New Mexico.
The day with the next-largest amount of online voter registration activity was May 3, when there were 6,181 new registrations or updates to existing registrations.
While the final numbers aren’t known, there will be more registered voters this year than the last presidential election in 2012. As of September 30, a total of 1,260,501 New Mexicans were registered to vote. In the final numbers from 2012, 1,254,567 New Mexicans were registered to vote.
