Trump to hold campaign rally in New Mexico this weekend

Donald Trump is coming back to New Mexico for a campaign rally, a week before Election Day.

Trump will be in New Mexico Sunday to headline a campaign rally.

The rally will be held at Atlantic Aviation, near the Albuquerque International Sunport according to Trump’s website. The doors will open at 4:00 p.m. for the 7:00 p.m. start time. Trump has a rally scheduled for Greeley, Colorado at 4:00 p.m. that same day.

KOB-TV and KRQE-TV  first reported Trump’s visit before the official announcement, citing unnamed sources. Shortly after, the Albuquerque Journal, citing a senior Trump aide, reported it would take place at 7 p.m. in Albuquerque.

The rest of this story continues as originally written.

Trump’s appearance comes on the heels of a poll from ZiaPoll, first reported by NM Political Report, which showed Trump trailing Democratic nominee Clinton by just 5 percent in New Mexico.

Jason Miller, Trump’s campaign communication adviser, told Rita Cosby on WABC radio in New York “both in New Mexico and in Michigan, we are showing dead heats in those states.”

“Watch those states very closely. Watch where Mr. Trump is traveling and where we start focusing some additional attention,” Miller told Cosby. “But there are states, for all of the talk of Hillary Clinton supposedly going on offense with red states, she’s campaigning in blue states, and we’re making a play for blue states.”

It’s unclear if Miller was talking about internal polling or the ZiaPoll.

“We’re seeing polling that are showing these races that are in a dead heat, in the margin, with Mr. Trump with a lot of growth and a lot of energy,” Miller said.

The announcement came after the director of the FBI said investigators discovered new emails from an unrelated case that “appear to be pertinent to the investigation” of Clinton’s handling of classified emails on a private email server.

The New York Times reported the emails came from an investigation into former Congressman Anthony Weiner, who is married to Huma Abedin. Abedin, one of Clinton’s top aides, announced the two were separating after reports that he continued to exchange sexual messages with women over social media.

This will be Trump’s second campaign event in the state, and the first in the general election. Trump appeared at a campaign rally at the Albuquerque Convention Center in late May, where he spoke in front of thousands of supporters.

Outside that rally, anti-Trump protesters demonstrated. When the sun set, a different set of protesters showed up and pelted police with rocks, flaming t-shirts and other debris.

Mike Pence, Trump’s vice presidential candidate, has appeared in New Mexico twice, once traveling to Albuquerque and Roswell and the second time just campaigning in Albuquerque.

Trump’s rally comes on a swing through western states. Saturday, Trump is scheduled to rally in Phoenix, Arizona and Golden, Colorado, and on Sunday morning, he is scheduled to campaign in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Update: Added name of the New York City radio station.

Update 2: Added information on the rally.
