A poll shows Ted Cruz holds the narrowest of leads over Donald Trump among Republicans in New Mexico, with Rubio the only other candidate in double-digits.

The poll conducted by Research & Polling for the Albuquerque Journal found Cruz has support of 25 percent, Trump with 24 percent, Rubio with 19 percent and other candidates below ten percent among likely voters.

New Mexico’s primary elections take place in early June, likely long after a candidate will have won the primary for both Democrats and Republicans.

The three candidates leading in New Mexico are also the top three candidates among national Republicans in public polling.

Because of the late primary date, New Mexico has seen just about no campaigning from presidential campaigns. That’s why this is no surprise that 17 percent of those polled in New Mexico still say they are undecided.

Ben Carson clocks in at six percent, Jeb Bush at 5 percent and John Kasich at 4 percent. Bush dropped out of the race Saturday night after a disappointing fourth-place finish.

Bush finished narrowly ahead of both Carson and Kasich in South Carolina.

Trump handily won the South Carolina primary Saturday. He won every delegate up for grabs in the early Southern primary.

Next weekend, the attention in the Republican race turns to the West and the Nevada caucuses, which could bring more attention to New Mexicans on the presidential race.

A question about the second-choice from the pollster shows that Rubio and Cruz have more room to expand than Trump.

The poll found that 19 percent choose Rubio as their second choice and 18 percent would choose Cruz as their second choice. Trump is the second choice of just 8 percent, below even Ben Carson’s 12 percent.

The poll surveyed 403 likely voters among New Mexico Republicans. The poll had a margin of error of +/- 4.9 percentage points.
