DOH: Over 1,200 new COVID-19 cases, 23 additional deaths

The state Department of Health reported over 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, the first time over that number in four days. The department also reported 23 additional deaths related to the disease and another increase in hospitalizations.

The department reported 1,221 total new cases on Tuesday.

Bernalillo County had the most newly reported cases on Tuesday, with 353. Three other counties had 100 or more new cases: Doña Ana County with 122, McKinley County with 117 and San Juan County with 105.

DOh also reported 35 new cases among state inmates at five facilities in the state.

On Tuesday, the department reported 806 individuals were hospitalized for COVID-19, an increase of 18 people since Monday. This could include those from other states who are hospitalized in New Mexico, but would not include New Mexicans who are hospitalized out of state.

DOH provided some information on each of the 23 newly reported deaths.

A female in her 80s from Bernalillo County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions. She was a resident of the Care Free Assisted Living facility in Albuquerque.

A female in her 80s from Eddy county who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions. She was a resident of the White Sands Healthcare facility in Hobbs.
A male in his 70s from Hidalgo County who was hospitalized.
A male in his 90s from Lea County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Desert Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hobbs.
A female in her 60s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
A female in her 70s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
A male in his 60s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
A male in his 70s from McKinley County who had underlying conditions.

A male in his 90s from Sierra County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the New Mexico State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences.

DOH does not disclose which underlying condition any of the deceased had, only if one was present before death.

The most common underlying condition for those who died with COVID-19 was hypertension, followed by diabetes and cardiovascular disease, according to the most recently available mortality update. Some of those who died had multiple comorbidities.

DOH has now found 139,875 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and reported 2,403 deaths related to the disease.

Of the confirmed cases, 62,232 were designated as recovered by the department as of Tuesday, an increase of 1,333 since Monday.

The New Mexico Environment Department’s Rapid Response COVID-19 Watchlist had 72 establishments as of Tuesday, 21 fewer than were listed on Monday. These workplaces had two or more COVID-19 rapid responses in the last 14 days.

Testing details

The state coronavirus information page says the state has processed 1,946,285 tests as of Tuesday, 7,204 more than reported on Monday.

DOH also reported the total number of cases by county, including those reported on Tuesday.

Three previously reported cases were identified by DOH as duplicates (two in Bernalillo County and one in Eddy County) and two previously reported cases in Bernalillo County that were not lab confirmed. These have been removed.
