Finally Friday.
Here are three things to watch for Friday, December 4 (and a couple for this weekend).
If you have anything you want to add, feel free to email editor@nmpoliticalreport.com.
1. Public meeting on Clean Power Plan
The state Environment Department will hold a meeting in Las Vegas over the implementation of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan that seeks to reduce carbon emissions. According to the department, “The meetings include a brief introduction to the Clean Power Plan, followed by the opportunity for interested citizens to provide input to the New Mexico Environment Department and to ask questions regarding the final rule.”
It is the first of four such meetings.
The meeting will take place at the City of Las Vegas City council Chambers from 3:oo p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
2. Legislators looking at public school capital outlay
Another interim meeting takes place on Friday at the State Capitol.
Legislators will meet from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (though you probably won’t go broke betting on legislative hearings to start a little late). The legislators will hear from the Funding Formula Subcommittee as part of the hearing.
3. Heinrich presenting medals to Vietnam vet
U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich will be in Albuquerque and present nine medals to a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War. The medals include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal and Air Medal according to Heinrich’s office.
The ceremony will take place at the University of New Mexico in the Roberts Room in Scholes Hall.
Heinrich will also meet with Health Leadership High School students in Albuquerque earlier in the day.
Honorable mentions:
—You can take a brisk urban hike this weekend and give your input on the future of the bosque.
Albuquerque Open Space Division Manager Dr. Matt Schmader is scheduled to provide information and receive public comment on the plans for the bosque.
The hikes will go from 10 a.m. to noon, starting at the trailhead at the end of Gabaldon Place NW next to I-40.
—Everyone likes a parade, with or without 76 trombones, right?
We’ve mentioned the Holly Holm victory parade on Sunday, but if you’re in Albuquerque and like Christmas pageantry more than UFC fighting, you can attend the Twinkle Light Parade on Saturday.
The parade will take place on Central from Washington to Girard at 5:15 p.m. Though you probably want to get there early (and arrive bundled up) if you want a good spot.
—Up in Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Film Festival continues. And at the Evoke Contemporary Gallery at 550 S. Guadalupe St you there will be a panel discussion on diversity.
From the release:
Diversity Panelists are set to include film producer Grace Santos, India-born filmmaker and aerospace electronics engineer Mukul Gadde, Iranian-born actress Saneh Boothe and New Mexico Film Office Outreach Coordinator Belle Allen.
