U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján each reflected on the first 100 days of the Donald Trump administration, and both were highly critical of the job the president was doing in his second term.

Both Senators are Democrats and both have been highly critical of Trump and his administration, particularly the Department of Government Efficiency, an initiative pushed by billionaire CEO Elon Musk.

Heinrich mentioned Musk in his statement slamming the president.

“Donald Trump and Elon Musk are tanking our economy, pushing us into a recession, and throwing working families under the bus,” Heinrich said.

Heirnich said that Trump’s administration has raised the cost of “health care, groceries and utilities” and called the tariffs Trump has imposed on countries throughout the world “chaotic.”

These were just two of the parts of a long list of grievances Heinrich had against Trump.

“In his first 100 days, Donald Trump has raised the cost of YOUR health care, groceries, and utilities; slapped a $4,000 tax on YOUR family with his chaotic tariffs; attacked Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare; delayed veteran benefits; undermined our children’s public education; schemed to sell off YOUR public lands; fired wildland firefighters who protect our communities from dangerous wildfires; and unlawfully blocked hundreds of millions of dollars I helped pass into law for working families,” Heinrich said. “Trump is doing all of this to bankroll massive tax handouts for himself, Elon Musk, and billionaire donors.
Luján similarly had a laundry list of problems.

“In just 100 days, President Trump has driven up costs for New Mexicans, attacked essential programs like Social Security, and put our nation’s public health at risk,” he said. “The American people are rejecting the increased costs, chaos, and corruption caused by this administration. I’ve heard from New Mexicans in every corner of our state who are deeply concerned about their livelihoods due to these reckless policies and hateful politics.”

  1. Our so called Senators have no idea what’s going on . They have serious cases of TDS. I expect they will fly to El Salvador next . The border is closed, gas is cheaper, I don’t have to buy an electric car, tax cuts for us, no tax on tips , no tax on social security. The only ones losing are the dems. Flip NM Red !!

  2. Can anyone prove that border barriers and controls cost us less than medical care for undocumented residents? Our aging population puts great demands on medical care.
Why blame young willing workers? The US population is largely descended from immigrants.

  3. of course the the worthless so-called senators are going ot sing the rhetoric of the leftist loonies while denying reality. go back under your rocks already !!!!

  4. Charlie, you know better what is happening in the current administration? How is that?
I’m concerned about burgeoning corruption and disregard for the rule of law. Here is what I’ve been reading that concerns me: 1) illegally firing of over a dozen Inspector Generals – whose job it is to root out fraud, waste, and corruption in government. Many of them had active investigations into potential fraud and waste in contracts with Elon Musk’s companies. 2) gutting the IRS, shortly after they staffed up both with people to answer the phone and with experts capable of analyzing the legality of complicated tax returns. Like those filed by the very wealthy. 3) Tariffs are another form of tax and they are regressive. So the true burden on low wage earners will actually be going up, not down. Not to mention as deployed they are a form of taxation without representation. 4) disregarding even Supreme Court directives.
