Sen. Martin Heinrich toured the Bernalillo County Emergency Operations Center on Tuesday.
Heinrich, a New Mexico Democrat, viewed the areas where the improvements and technology upgrades will take place at the center. This will include two closets where equipment currently resides. A spokesperson for Heinrich said the equipment will be more accessible to law enforcement personnel. The space will also be widened to increase capacity.
Heinrich made the tour to see the improvements the center made with the help of the $750,000 he secured for the center in congressionally directed spending. He was joined by several Bernalillo County officials with the county fire and emergency departments and the sheriff’s office.
“I’m proud to have secured funding to enhance the Bernalillo County Emergency Operations Center. These improvements will directly support our dedicated firefighters, law enforcement officers, and emergency medical responders who work tirelessly to safeguard the health and safety of all New Mexicans,” Heinrich said through a news release. “I will always fight to deliver the resources and tools our first responders need to do their vital, lifesaving work and keep New Mexicans safe.”
Update: This story was updated to reflect that the improvements have not been made yet.
