The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission wants to gauge whether electric utilities are prepared for the higher electrical demands this summer.

The PRC is asking utilities to present on their seasonal readiness during an April 16 meeting.

This is the second consecutive year that the PRC has sought this information ahead of the summer, when electrical demands tend to be higher due to air conditioning.

“There was value in what [electric utilities] did last year, so we’re gonna ask [the utilities] to do it again,” Commission Chairman Pat O’Connell said during a Thursday meeting.

Commissioner Gabriel Aguilera said he would like to require the utilities to file the information they present in the case docket as well as presenting it to the commission this year.
