In campaign finance reports covering most of the first months of the general election, Democratic nominee Deb Haaland raised $3.4 million and spent $2.2 million, ending with $3.4 million on hand after accounting for a balance left over from her primary campaign. By comparison, Hull, the Republican nominee, raised less than $1 million. He reported raising just over $943,000 while spending $731,000. On September 7, 60 days before voting ends, he reported $509,000 on hand.
Haaland, a former congresswoman and interior secretary, has set fundraising records in New Mexico since announcing her campaign in 2025. In the primary election, she raised over $12 million from more than 50,000 individual donors which produced a report so large it overwhelmed the secretary of state’s online reporting portal.
Hull, the former mayor of Rio Rancho, prevailed in a crowded Republican field but has struggled to raise large amounts of money in a state dominated by Democratic statewide officials.
Voters can begin casting in-person votes in county clerks’ offices on October 6. Early voting sites in most counties open in mid-October.
