1,463 new cases of COVID-19, 31 additional deaths

1,463 new cases of COVID-19, 31 additional deaths

The state Department of Health reported 1,463 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday. The department also reported 31 additional deaths related to the disease.

Bernalillo County had the most newly reported cases on Friday, with 418. Four other counties had 100 or more newly reported cases on Friday: Doña Ana County (137), San Juan County (131), Sandoval County (117) and McKinley County (111).

DOH also reported 31 new cases among inmates at five New Mexico Corrections Department facilities.

On Friday, the department reported 889 individuals were hospitalized for COVID-19, an increase of 37 people since Thursday. This could include those from other states who are hospitalized in New Mexico, but would not include New Mexicans who are hospitalized out of state.

DOH provided some information on each of the 31 newly reported deaths.

  • A male in his 50s from Bernalillo County who was hospitalized.
  • A female in her 60s from Bernalillo County who was hospitalized.
  • A male in his 80s from Bernalillo County who was hospitalized.
  • A second male in his 80s from Bernalillo County who was a resident of the Care Free Assisted Living facility in Albuquerque.
  • A female in her 90s from Bernalillo County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A second female in her 90s from Bernalillo County.
  • A male in his 90s from Bernalillo County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A female in her 70s from Chaves County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions. She was a resident of the Mission Arch Center in Roswell.
  • A female in her 90s from Chaves County who was a resident of the Sunset Villa Care Center in Roswell.
  • A male in his 60s from Cibola County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A female in her 70s from Colfax County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Raton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
  • A female in her 40s from Curry County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 70s from Doña Ana County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A second male in his 70s from Doña Ana County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 60s from Eddy County who was hospitalized.
  • A female in her 90s from Eddy County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Landsun Unit of Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad.
  • A female in her 50s from Lea County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A female in her 60s from Luna County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 40s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A female in her 60s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A female in her 90s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 70s from Roosevelt County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A female in her 60s from Sandoval County.
  • A male in his 80s from Sandoval County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 70s from San Juan County who was hospitalized.
  • A female in her 80s from San Juan County who was a resident of the Aztec Healthcare facility in Aztec.
  • A male in his 80s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 70s from Santa Fe County who was hospitalized.
  • A female in her 80s from Socorro County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Good Samaritan Society facility in Socorro.
  • A male in his 80s from Socorro County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 70s from Valencia County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

DOH does not disclose which underlying condition any of the deceased had, only if one was present before death.

The most common underlying condition for those who died with COVID-19 was hypertension, followed by diabetes and cardiovascular disease, according to the most recently available mortality update. Some of those who died had multiple comorbidities.

DOH has now found 127,500 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and reported 2,128 deaths related to the disease.

Of the confirmed cases, 52,137 were designated as recovered by the department as of Friday, an increase of 1,353 since Thursday.

The New Mexico Environment Department’s Rapid Response COVID-19 Watchlist had 188 establishments as of Friday, fifteen more than listed on Thursday. These workplaces had two or more COVID-19 rapid responses in the last 14 days.

Testing details

The state coronavirus information page says the state has processed 1,809,293 tests as of Friday, 12,690 more than reported on Thursday.

  • 1 new case among New Mexico Corrections Department inmates at the Lea County Correctional Facility
  • 7 new cases among New Mexico Corrections Department inmates at the Penitentiary of New Mexico in Santa Fe County
  • 8 new cases among New Mexico Corrections Department inmates at the Springer Correctional Center in Colfax County

DOH also reported the total number of cases by county, including those reported on Friday.

Seven previously reported cases were identified by DOH as duplicates (two in Bernalillo County, two in Doña Ana County and one in each of Curry, Otero and Santa Fe counties) and one previously reported case in Bernalillo County was not lab confirmed. These have been removed.

Additionally, two cases previously reported as residents of Guadalupe County were determined to be among Corrections Department inmates at the Guadalupe County Correctional Facility. These have also been corrected.
