A new poll shows nearly half of New Mexicans approve of the way Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is doing her job.
The poll from Morning Consult finds Lujan Grisham’s approval rating at 47 percent, while 37 percent disapprove of her job performance. Another 16 percent have no opinion.
Lujan Grisham took office at the beginning of the year after easily defeating Republican Steve Pearce. Lujan Grisham was previously a U.S. Representative from the state’s 1st Congressional District, which is centered on the Albuquerque area.
The poll shows that nearly ten percentage points more voters have formed an opinion of the governor since the same firm released a poll earlier this year.
A poll conducted after the first three months of Lujan Grisham’s time in office found her approval rating at 41 percent and disapproval rating at 33 percent. And in the second three months of the year, Morning Consult found her approval rating at 44 percent and disapproval rating at 43 percent.
The poll also found that both of New Mexico’s U.S. Senators — Democrats Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich — had identical approval ratings of 43 percent, with 34 percent disapproving of their job performance. Almost a quarter of voters, 24 percent, had no opinion.
The most recent poll took place from July 1 through Sept. 30. The poll surveyed 533,985 voters throughout the United States.
The poll has a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points, which means answers can differ by up to 2 percent in either direction.
