Transcripts of Susana Martinez hotel phone calls with police

If you haven’t heard the audio of the phone calls or are not able to hear audio, we have transcripts of the video as well as each phone call.

These transcripts were written by NM Political Report staff from audio obtained on Friday morning through an open records request.

First call

Front Desk Agent: “We have guests that have been partying in their rooms. They’ve been warned already and they are still not quieting down. They’ve been told to leave. We were told to call you guys.”

Dispatcher: “What room?”

Front Desk:  “465. If we could have them escorted off the property.”

Dispatcher: “They’ve been warned you said?”

Front Desk: “Yes. They’ve been warned several times throughout the night and they are still at it.”

Dispatcher: “Do you know if they have any weapons or anything like that?”

Front Desk: “No I do not, but I just know they were throwing bottles off the balcony earlier.”

Dispatcher: “Oh they were throwing bottles off?”

Front Desk: “Yes.”

Second call

[Omitted portions of front desk speaking to dispatcher]

Susana Martinez: “Hi, this is Governor Susana Martinez.”

Dispatcher: “What can I do for you?

SM: “Tell me what the complaint is.”

Dispatcher: “I’m sorry, what?”

SM: “Tell me what the complaint is.”

Dispatcher: “What do you mean?”

SM: “Why are you coming to the Eldorado Hotel?”

Dispatcher: “Reference loud noise.”

SM: “Loud noise? We’re in a room eating pizza.”

Dispatcher: “I’m sorry, ma’am, someone called us out there and we have to go.”

SM: “Someone? Who is someone?”

Dispatcher: “I can’t give you that information, ma’am.”

SM: “Why not? It’s public record. Give it to me.”

[Puts her on hold, to talk to supervisor]

SM: “It was other residents who were making complaints?”

Front Desk: “Um, yeah, [inaudible]

SM: “What room number?”

Front Desk: “I’m not allowed to tell you, sorry.”

SM: “Tell me, what room number. Are they on the fourth floor?” “They’re next door to our room? That area. Are they next door? I want to know who they are.”

Front Desk: “I’m not allowed to give you that information.”

SM: “Oh, you can give it to the police but they won’t tell you–you won’t tell me? I’ll get it from the cops.”

Dispatcher: “OK, ma’am, transferring you now.”

SM: “Yes, I have a—”

Dispatcher: “No, I’m transferring you now, ma’am.”

SM: “Yes, I have the Santa Fe Police Department here with me.”

Dispatcher: “Oh, OK, do you want to speak to them, ma’am.”

SM: “No, I want to talk to you. Tell me who’s made the complaint.”

Dispatcher: “Can I transfer you to my supervisor, ma’am?”

SM: “You’ve been trying to do it for a while.”

Dispatcher: “I’m doing that now.”

SM: “Thank you.”

Third call

Susana Martinez: “Tell me what the issue is over here at the Eldorado hotel. On the Fourth floor.”

Dispatcher: “I didn’t know there was an issue going on ma’am.”

SM: “Oh, I didn’t think you did. Well tell me why you have two officers here?”

Dispatcher: “We have a call at the Eldorado hotel saying that there’s a party in the room.”

SM: “So?”

Dispatcher: “So they called us and asked us to send somebody out there.”

SM: “Who did?”

Dispatcher: “The front desk.”

SM: “Oh the front desk did. Now tell me where the front desk got that complaint from.”

Dispatcher: “I don’t have that information, you’d have to talk—”

SM: “And so you send police over to just shut down a room?

Dispatcher: “To, to go speak to individuals about a party.”

SM: “So we’re sitting in there, I’m the governor of the state of New Mexico, and we’re in there with my sister, who’s disabled, along with about six other people who are having pizza.”

Dispatcher: “OK”.

SM: “Tell my why—”

Dispatcher: “Are they still there?”

SM: “Yes they are.”

Dispatcher: “OK. I’m showing that we have a commander there as well.”

SM: “Who’s the commander?”

Dispatcher: “You said what?”

SM: “Who’s the commander?”

Dispatcher: “Uh, Anthony Tapia.”

SM: “Anthony Tapia? Hello, commander. Yes, why does that require three police officers to be here.”

Dispatcher: “Uh, they’re response is up to them depending on the severity of the call.”

SM: “Um, we’re all in a room eating pizza.”

Dispatcher: “OK, well that wasn’t what was reported to us.”

SM: “What was reported to you?”

Dispatcher: “That there was a party and people were throwing bottles off the balcony.”

SM: “I’m sorry, there’s no one on the balcony, and there’s no one throwing bottles off the balcony, and if there were, it was about six hours ago.”

Dispatcher: “OK. Uh, well we got a complaint from the front desk and asked us to send units out and we did.”

SM: “And the front desk got that complaint from whom?”

Dispatcher: “I don’t know, they didn’t advise us to that. That’s—”

SM: “So it was a general complaint.”

Dispatcher: “Yes ma’am.”

SM: “OK, commander, may I speak with you please? What is the complaint?”

Commander: [inaudible]

SM: “There’s no one been throwing bottles off, I’ve been in that room for at least two hours, and if there was it was about six hours.”

Commander: Ok, I understand.. [Inaudible]

SM: Everything is, we are eating pizza and drinking Cokes, and whoever was throwing bottles is not there, hasn’t been there for like six hours.

Commander: [Inaudible]

SM: Thank you very much, we appreciate it. There’s no necessary, no necessity for your officers to be here. Thank you. Call them off. Goodbye.
