President Donald Trump is headlining a first-ever “Midterm Convention” for the Republican Party this week in Dallas and at least one New Mexico candidate is on the announced agenda.

So far, Greg Cunningham, a retired police officer running for Congress in the 2nd District, is the only New Mexico candidate or elected official on the announced agenda for the convention slated to be held on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Cunningham won the Republican nomination in June and will take on incumbent Democrat Gabe Vasquez in November.
On social media on Sunday, Cunningham confirmed that he will be attending. “I’m going to be highlighting the State of New Mexico for the rest of the country,” he said. Addressing Vasquez via video, Cunningham said he would use his time to profile “what you and your party have done to our state.”
Over the weekend, Vasquez’s campaign criticized Cunningham for aligning himself with President Trump after Trump posted a meme showing New Mexico renamed “New America.”
