DOH: 773 new cases of COVID-19 over weekend and 21 deaths

The New Mexico Department of Health reported 773 new cases of COVID-19 and 21 additional deaths related to the disease this weekend.

DOH reported 349 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday after reporting 424 cases on Saturday. The department reported 13 additional deaths on Sunday and 8 additional deaths on Saturday.

The number of those hospitalized for COVID-19 reached 403 on Sunday, 7 more than reported on Friday. This could include those from other states who are hospitalized in New Mexico, but would not include New Mexicans who are hospitalized in other states.

DOH has now found 177,556 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and reported 3,399 deaths related to the disease.

DOH provided some information on each of the 13 newly reported deaths Sunday.

A female in her 60s from Bernalillo County who had underlying conditions.
A male in his 80s from Bernalillo County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Tres Hermanas Assisted Living facility in Albuquerque.
A female in her 90s from Grant County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Santa Clara Assisted Living facility in Santa Clara.
A female in her 80s from Lea County who had underlying conditions.
A female in her 80s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
A female in her 70s from Sandoval County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
A female in her 20s from San Juan County who had underlying conditions.
A female in her 50s from San Juan County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Bloomfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bloomfield.
A male in his 70s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
A female in her 90s from San Juan County who was a resident of the Bloomfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bloomfield.
A male in his 70s from Santa Fe County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
A male in his 80s from Valencia County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
A male in his 70s who was hospitalized and was an inmate at the Lea County Correctional Facility.

And Saturday:

A male in his 70s from Bernalillo County who had underlying conditions.
A male in his 80s from Catron County.
A female in her 80s from Colfax County who had underlying conditions.
A male in his 80s from Eddy County who was a resident of the White Sands Healthcare facility in Hobbs.
A male in his 70s from Luna County.
A female in her 60s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
A female in her 70s from San Juan County who had underlying conditions.
A male in his 80s from Valencia County who had underlying conditions.

DOH does not disclose which underlying condition any of the deceased had, only if one was present before death.

The most common underlying condition for those who died with COVID-19 was hypertension, followed by diabetes and cardiovascular disease, according to the most recently available mortality update. Some of those who died had multiple comorbidities.

The New Mexico Environment Department’s Rapid Response COVID-19 Watchlist had 41 establishments as of Sunday. These workplaces had two or more COVID-19 rapid responses in the last 14 days.

Testing details

The state coronavirus information page says the state has processed 2,430,327 tests as of Sunday, 27,843 more than reported on Friday.
