The former Albuquerque Public Schools deputy superintendent who is facing child sexual abuse and domestic violence charges was booked into Denver jail on Wednesday.

The Albuquerque Journal first reported the news on Wednesday, citing online court records. The newspaper says Jason Martinez is being held without bond.

A spokeswoman with the District Attorney’s office in Denver confirmed the news to New Mexico Political Report.

The spokeswoman, Lynn Kimbrough confirmed that he is being held in the Denver Detention Center. He will appear Thursday for a hearing on a motion to revoke his bond.

An email from Kimbrough said Martinez was “located and arrested in Denver by the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force about 10:30 a.m.”

Martinez, who resigned abruptly before news of his pending criminal charges came to light, had his bond revoked by a judge on Monday afternoon. Police in Colorado put out a warrant for his arrest for violating pre-trial agreements that said he had to have permission from the courts to leave the state.

Martinez was out on two $50,000 bonds for the separate arrests.

Martinez had been working with APS this summer as deputy superintendent. APS did not know of his pending criminal charges because the required background check was never completed.

He previously worked for Denver Public Schools and for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt before taking the job with New Mexico’s largest school district.

A meeting where the Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education is expected to make a decision on Superintendent Luis Valentino’s fate with the department is scheduled for Thursday morning.
