Almost half of New Mexicans approve of the way their U.S. Senators are doing their jobs, while less than a third disapprove.
That’s according to the latest Morning Consult approval ratings.
The poll conducted in late 2017 found that 49 percent of New Mexico registered voters approve of Tom Udall’s job performance, while 29 percent disapproved and 2 percent had no opinion.
Martin Heinrich’s approval rating sat at 46 percent, while 29 percent disapproved and 24 percent had no opinion.
The numbers do not always add up to 100 percent because of rounding.
The numbers are similar, but slightly higher, than those found in the previous Morning Consult poll over the third quarter of 2017. That poll found Udall with an approval rating of 46 percent compared to 31 percent who disapproved, while Heinrich had an approval rating of 45 percent, to 31 percent disapproval.
Neither Udall nor Heinrich were near the list of ten most popular or ten least-popular U.S. Senators. Vermont Independent Bernie Sanders was the most popular among his constituents, with a 68 percent approval rating, followed by Hawaii Democrat Brian Schatz at 63 percent and Wyoming Republican Michael Enzi at 62 percent. Each had disapproval numbers of below 26 percent.
On the other end of the scale, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, led the way with 53 percent disapproving of his job performance compared to 32 percent who approved, followed by Arizona Republican Jeff Flake with a 49 percent disapproval number to 32 percent approval and New Jersey Democrat Robert Menendez, with 45 percent disapproval and 29 percent approval.
The poll has a +/- 3 percentage point margin of error in New Mexico.
The poll, conducted between Oct 1 and Dec. 31 using an online system, polled 253,383 registered voters throughout the country.
